- For The Birds!
— The For The Birds! program is a
multi-session outreach program presented at local schools,
and is designed to awaken in children a keen awareness and
appreciation for birds and the lives they lead. Students
learn about birds by observation, activities and games,
drawing, describing, discussing and reading. They study
key concepts, like adaptations and survival, migration,
identification, and how birds fit into the greater web of
life. While most classes are held indoors, we do go outside
and provide binoculars so that each student has ample opportunity
to view local birds. Classes also set up their own bird
feeders and make a variety of observations from their classroom
windows. Additionally, each student uses a special bird
journal throughout the school year.
The For The Birds! program was started
in New York City and now reaches schools in different parts
of New York State. Constitution Marsh is pleased to offer
For the Birds! to schools in the lower Hudson Valley region.
Other programs are available upon request.
