School Programs at Constitution Marsh Audubon Center
Where kids become scientists...
School groups of all ages are welcome
at Constitution Marsh Sanctuary. A typical class conducts
hands-on investigations of the Hudson River using scientific
tools and methods. Our programs are designed for groups of
15-25 students, but we are happy to make accommodations for
slightly smaller or larger groups. Please contact us for more
information.
Programs include:
- Eagles on the
Hudson Program - Bring your students to Constitution
Marsh in January, February, or March to learn about these
awesome birds, and to search for them along the shores of
the river.
- Brook Program
- Wearing boots and using nets, students collect and identify
organisms they catch in Indian Brook and explore the Hudson
River watershed.
- Bird Program
- Using binoculars and learning field mark identification,
students learn to identify some of the common marsh birds,
and learn about their nesting habits and migration patterns.
- Fish Program
- Students learn fish anatomy and use scientific "keys"
to identify fish species.
- Aquatic Program
- Students "scope out" microorganisms they collect from
the marsh.
- Canoe trips
- Our most popular spring, summer, and fall program! Students
experience tidal marsh ecology first-hand by canoeing from
Indian Brook into Constitution Marsh and our wildlife sanctuary.
