Recent Updates and Interesting Sightings
August 17, 2008
We said goodbye to our summer staff today, as our internships
ended and they are moving on to new adventures. We wish Judy,
Sarah and Christy well and look forward to seeing them again!

August 1-15, 2008
We were out in the muck several times this month working to
control phragmites, a tall, invasive grass that is rapidly
spreading in the marsh. We are covering these areas with black
plastic in an attempt to greatly reduce the amount of herbicides
and restore native marsh plants to the control sites. The
project is showing early success.

The growing season reaches it’s peak in early August, and
flowering plants decorate the dark green marsh with bright
color. Pollinating insects are busy, and Ruby-throated Hummingbirds
cannot resist the impossibly red cardinal flowers.
