Warming temperatures have led most of the ice to melt in the
open area south of the sanctuary part of Constitution Marsh.

But inside the sanctuary, we still have
a fair amount of ice. Notice how most of the boardwalk is
visible in winter, when the vegetation has died back. It looks
totally different in August--come see for yourself!

Rich M. and Laura from the Albany office came down to help
Eric and Rich A. build Chimney Swift towers today. The towers
will be erected in New York City in mid-March, and we'll post
some more photos here when we're working on that phase of
the project.

From 9:00am – 4:00pm today, we co-hosted an eagle viewing
site with New York State Parks—Taconic Region, as part
of Hudson River EagleFest 2009. 300 people joined us throughout
the day at the Annsville Paddle Sport Center in Peekskill,
and most of the visitors were treated to views of both adults
and immature eagles perched on ice floes, or soaring over
the river.

Mary saw the White-winged Crossbills (briefly), and also heard
a Hermit Thrush vocalizing in one of the bushes right outside
the office.
February 4, 2009
Rich heard a Red-winged Blackbird singing today!
February 3, 2009
Around lunchtime today, Eric observed a flock of White-winged
Crossbills perched in the top of the spruce trees near our
