January 30, 2009
Our “For the Birds!” educator, Pete Salmansohn, led a group of local 4th graders who came to the Marsh to look for Bald Eagles.

We found most of the Marsh frozen when we hiked with the 4th graders out to the boardwalk, but many of last year’s cattails were still standing.

Later that day, a big Tom Turkey showed up and started displaying for the females, but the ladies didn’t appear interested.

For the first time ever, we saw one of the Wild Turkey’s perched on the T-bar from which we hang our bird feeders, pecking at the suet!

A view of the hiking trail into the forest near our interpretive kiosk.

Song Sparrows, White-throated Sparrows, American Tree Sparrows, and an Eastern Grey Squirrel were enjoying seeds on the ground beneath our feeders, until…

…One of our frequently visiting flocks of Wild Turkeys arrived!

We had an unusual visitor at our feeders on this Project FeederWatch count day—a Swamp Sparrow.
