Congratulations to our friend and intern, Matt, who married
Bethany in Pennsylvania today! We look forward to seeing you
both soon, and wish you all the best in your new life together.

After much flapping of wings and jostling for space in the
now way-too-small nest, the Eastern Phoebes featured on our
"web cam" fledged today! We expect the parents to start building
a new nest very soon to start a second brood.

The show on our "Phoebe cam" has delighted our staff and visitors
for most of the last month. The "Phoebe cam" is a a live video
feed of a nearby Eastern Phoebe nest that is broadcast on
a TV in our nature center. The first "feature brood" of Phoebes
of this season will be leaving the nest any day now: Their
eyes have been open for almost a week, their down has been
replaced by juvenile feathers, and it's getting crowded in
the nest, now that the chicks are full-grown. One of the five
chicks spent much of the day today standing at the edge of
the nest, flapping its wings like crazy.
Birds seen or heard near the nature center
today included:
- Cedar Waxwing
- Indigo Bunting
- American Redstart
- Possible Blue-winged Warbler hybrid
- Eastern Kingbird chasing a Red-tailed
Hawk
- Pileated Woodpecker
- Wild Turkey
- American Goldfinch
- Northern Cardinal
- Red-winged Blackbird

The first two weeks of May are a special time here at Constitution
Marsh. The new mint green cattail growth will soon overshadow
the brittle brown stalks from the previous season. School
groups from the Hudson Valley are visiting nearly every day
to study, observe, hike and canoe. The tree tops ring and
buzz with migrating songbirds. And from the boardwalk, you
will be treated to the first giggly songs of Marsh Wrens.
Check back soon for more updates over the coming weeks, or
better yet, come experience the sanctuary with us.
