Recent Updates and Interesting Sightings

The birding at our nature center was fantastic on this Election
Day! Highlights included a mixed flock of American Robins
and Eastern Bluebirds that chattered away while foraging in
the Hackberry trees, and a Northern Mockingbird at the edge
of the swamp. Two Hermit Thrushes, a Pileated Woodpecker,
and several Red-headed Woodpeckers worked their way through
berry bushes and snags near the interpretive kiosk. We also
had great views through the telescope of a Great Blue Heron
that swooped in for a landing at the mouth of Indian Brook.

Our birdfeeders are back up for the season, and we’re
seeing a lot of year-round resident visitors already; Nuthatches,
Chickadees, Titmice, Cardinals, and Blue Jays have been coming
regularly. We have also observed Pine Siskins, Purple Finches,
Red-winged Blackbirds, Mourning Doves, and Downy Woodpeckers.
The songs of White-throated Sparrows have been greeting us
each morning for the last few weeks as well.
